Misconception #1. It costs more to go through an agent than to buy direct.

Whether you use an agent or buy direct, you pay EXACTLY the same amount.  The difference is that, when using an independent agent, you get free advice and guidance – allowing you to compare the rates of multiple plans and products.  The agent works for you, not an insurance company and does not charge you for the service.

Misconception #2. It’s easier/faster going direct to the insurance company.

Imagine you were re-roofing your house. Would you just call one roofing company and just go with that one, or would you call multiple companies in order to compare their rates, reputation and craftsmanship –  ensuring you got the best/most affordable one?  Like a major home repair, your insurance is too important to skip doing your homework. And that is exactly what an independent insurance agent does for you.  An independent insurance agent makes informed and knowledgeable recommendations based on his/her expertise — and you get all that at no extra charge, without having to do all the legwork yourself.  By using an independent agent, you don’t have to guess whether you called the right insurance company, or if you got unbiased advice.

Misconception #3. That calling an insurance agent means getting an annoying high-pressured sales pitch.

No one likes to be sold, and it’s true that some insurance agents have that reputation, but calling a professional independent insurance agent is the first step.  Take the time to look at the agent’s track record, reputation and testimonials to make sure you are being educated and not sold.
